Netflix now has a new Film this week "Jesus Revolution" a story detailing events back during the late 60's when Hippies became Jesus Freaks in search for real truth.
.. and I was part of the Jesus Revolution as it spread through my area of Central and Northern Illinois back in the day.
NOT ALL the movie was I privy to, realtime , but some of it I was.
- the tract they handed out with cartoons , Marc handed out hundreds of them in a place called Grant Park in Chicago IL, I prayed the sinner's prayer of confession, which you will hear to 27 hippies who said YES TO CHRIST and became what we called "Jesus People"
- When you see hands going up with index finger pointing up, STRAIGHT and true, It was always accompanied by the chant "ONE WAY, JESUS WAY" 15 to 25 times.
- "Love Song" was a new Christian Rock Band which I played constantly as a DJ in the mid 70's for a ROCK station WKOY-AM I worked with in Bluefield VA as I finished college.
We set up coffee houses near churches where Jesus Freaks , like myself, come come and Play and sing and read poetry in candlelight drinking pop and eating cookies with no drugs.
Lastly, a HUGE meeting in Texas Jesus Expo 72 took place , I missed it but I was in touch with leaders and during their last worship service it poured rain on over 10,000 kids but then [awesome] a PERFECT rainbow stretched from sky to sky above the stadium as they wrapped up the weekend events, which brings it all to me here in Illinois where I became the music man / leader of Operation Penetration at U of I in Champaign/Urbana the following month to bring the REVOLUTION to IL and our wonderful college kids, I was 22 yrs old.
in front of 800 howling Jesus Freaks I was yelling:
gimme a J, gimme an E, etc WHO"S the savior of the
WORLD? J E S U S !
I can't HEAR you JJJJ EEEE SSSSS UUUUU SSSSS they cried out as I led them in Christian modern songs and sang solos to prepare for the speakers among us at the time.
Many days and years praising the Lord as a Jesus freak with my tie dye shirts and my Afro hairstyle.
Welcome to the movie of a serving life, My "Jesus Revolution"
Let me know what you thot of those 70's vibes.
