New laws needed to deal with Chinese lanterns says fire chief after one starts massive blaze
There’s less than two weeks to go until the Duchess of Cambridge is due to give birth to her first child – and so one bookmaker decided to mark the imminent arrival of the royal baby with a bizarre, and slightly disturbing, publicity stunt.
Four oversized babies complete with beer guts, nappies and crowns were dispatched to Buckingham Palace by Paddy Power to scream the odds on royal betting.
As well as visiting their great-grandmother’s palace, the four ‘royals’ – with a combined weight of 508kg (80st) - got a few stares from commuters on the Tube and visited one of their uncle Prince Harry’s favourite hangouts, Boujis, and St Mary’s hospital – where the real baby will be born.
Each baby was sported a customised ginger, blond, brown and black tuft of hair in a nod to Paddy Power’s ‘Hair Colour’ market which has attracted more than 2,000 bets in the past month.
The latest hair colour odds on a ginger heir are 7/1, brunette 6/4, black hair 2/1 and blond is 7/2.
Egypt’s military has given president Mohammed Morsi and his opponents a last chance to ‘meet the people’s demands’ within 48 hours, and warned it will otherwise be forced to put forward a political road map for the country.
It described the mass protests on Sunday as ‘glorious’ and said the millions of protesters calling for Mr Morsi to give up power had expressed their opinion ‘in a peaceful and civilised manner’.
The army added: ‘It is necessary that the people get a reply to their calls’.
The mass rallies are aimed at forcing Muslim Brotherhood president Mohammed Morsi out of office
