Korn (stylized as KoЯn) is an American nu metal band from Bakersfield, California, formed in 1993.[1][2][3] The band's current lineup includes four members: Jonathan Davis, James "Munky" Shaffer, Reginald "Fieldy" Arvizu and Ray Luzier. Korn was originally formed by three of the members of the band L.A.P.D..
When thinking of a band name, someone suggested "corn", but the band rejected that name, so Shaffer had the idea to spell the name with both a "K" instead of a "C", and a backwards "R", so the band's name would appear as "KoЯn".[23] The logo was designed by vocalist Jonathan Davis.[4] Silveria explained, "the music makes the name, because Korn's a dumb name. But once we get established, it makes the name cool."[24]
Korn has sold 19 million albums in the US according to Nielsen SoundScan,[6] and 35 million worldwide.[7] Eleven of the band's official releases have peaked in the top ten of the Billboard 200, eight of which have peaked in the top five.[5] Eight official releases are certified Platinum or Multi-Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), and one is certified Gold.[8] Korn has released seven video albums and 39 music videos. "Shoots and Ladders" is a song written and recorded by the American nu metal band Korn for their self-titled debut album. It was released as the album's third single in 1995.[9]
The title is a mockery of American children's game Chutes and Ladders (also known in the UK as Snakes and Ladders), with the song's lyrics mostly consisting of nursery rhymes. It is the first Korn song to feature bagpipes.[10]
